There are a number of important issues that determine the type of whey, such as sweet or acid, fresh or older whey. In addition, an end product that is suitable as soil improver (cheaper) or as fertilizer (more expensive). But also the amount of strongly increased percentage of dry matter after the process (if we use fresh whey with 6% dry matter).
Every farmer can already analyze his own whey, we are ready to support you with proper advice.
Liquid whey soil improver & fertilizer
Rather than throw out leftover whey from making cheese or yoghurt , re-purpose it to fertilizing plants. Whey contains 6 to 7 percent milk solids, as well as several nutrients needed for plant growth. Plants will still need regular water, but watering with whey is a good supplement to fertilizers and it can improve soil conditions for plants.

Tracking Whey Nutrients
The exact nutrient content of whey varies, but 1000 liters of typical whey contains 1.5 kg nitrogen (N), 0.60 kg phosphorus (P), 0.50 kg potassium (K), 0.40 kg calcium, 0.06 kg magnesium, 0.60 kg sodium and 1.40 kg chlorine. The nutrient content of fertilizers is typically expressed in an N-P-K ratio, showing what percentage of the fertilizer’s weight is made up of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
A ton (1000 liter) of whey we process it by our Bio Whey Reactor into a Whey hydrolisate useful for liquid whey soil improver & fertilizer, or for a solid soil improver & fertilizer.
Benefiting from Whey
There is little danger of over-fertilizing if hydrolisate whey is used with other fertilizers, plants receive more balanced nutrients if whey is used without another fertilizer. If amounts of whey are properly balanced with other fertilizers, hydrolisate whey can help stabilize soil and supply trace minerals like calcium and magnesium without increasing the levels of soluble salt in the soil. This is an important attribute of hydrolisate whey since soils high in salt are toxic to plants. Salt buildup in the soil is typically caused by over-fertilization, and this danger is minimized when whey becomes a supplemental fertilizer.

Figuring Application Rates
As a liquid fertilizer, whey can be substituted for regular fertilizing applications for garden , horticulture, arable and grassland. Application rates are determined by the amount of nitrogen. An all-purpose fertilizer with an N-P-K ratio of 24-8-16 is diluted at a rate of 1 tablespoon(5cc) per 4 liter of water. This supplies 0.003 kg of nitrogen, 0.001 kg of phosphorus and 0.002 ounces of potassium per application. Use the mixture in place of regular fertilizer every other time you fertilize.
Use 150 liter hydrolizated whey / hectare in one time. Mix it with pure water and you have 300 liter product to use per hectare. We advise you to use your crop protection products (liquid) in a mix with your Whey hydrolisate. Less work in the field.
Correcting Soil pH
Because whey is acidic, with a pH between 4.0 and 6.1, it can be used to correct pH in soils too alkaline for specific plants. However, any type of whey we increase the pH value to alkaline, around 7 – 9 pH.
